BMW started producing this crossover SUV in 1999 at their Spartanburg, South Carolina production center. It is a 5-door SUV and features all-wheel drive. Inline 6-cylinder V8 petrol engine was added to the model. In some countries diesel engines are also available with BMW X5 cars. Though it is known as a Sport Utility Vehicle, BMW describes this model as Sport Activity Vehicle because of its performance on road.
